A Year of Blümer Bags: Seasonal Magic in Every Tote ✨👜

One of my favourite projects to dream up each year is the Blümer Bag—a seasonal tote filled with curated treasures from incredible local makers. We took a little break recently as we searched for a new maker to design our totes, and I’m so excited to share that we’re now teaming up with Under the Covers for all future Blümer Bags! This fresh partnership feels like the perfect fit, and I can’t wait for you to see what we’ve been working on together. The Fall 2025 Sweater Weather is all cozy vibes!

The Blümer Bag is more than just a bundle of products—it’s an experience. Every season (Spring, Fall, Winter), no two bags are alike. I’m Rebecca (Becca) and I’m the face behind Petal & Blüm.

 Flowers have always had a special place in my life — they’re not just pretty things, they’re little moments of joy. Whether it’s creating wedding magic, teaching a workshop, or simply putting together a bouquet for someone’s kitchen table, I love how flowers connect us.

 When I’m not covered in petals, greenery and glitter, I’m hanging out with my husband Jeff and our three rescue pups — Wish, Bella, and Odin. They keep life entertaining, full of love, and a little chaotic in the best way.

 Petal & Blüm started as a dream and has grown into this beautiful community that I’m so grateful for. Every arrangement I make comes with a whole lot of love and intention, and I hope you always feel that when you see my work.

Fun Facts About Me 🌸

🌺 Favorite Flower: Hibiscus, not a cut flower, but my absolute favorite! So much so, I got it tattooed on my foot. Hibiscus meaning = delicate beauty, joy & new beginnings. A reminder to embrace life’s moments, celebrate growth and find happiness in the little things.

☕ Favorite Coffee: Hazelnut latte! I’ll drink anything caffeinated, but my go-to is a hazelnut latte from Second Cup — floral fuel at its finest!

 📚 Homebody Vibes: Extrovert? Sometimes. Introvert? Definitely. I love cuddling on the couch with my pups and a good book in hand… yes, I’ve fallen for all the smutty romance novels.

 ✈️ Travel Lovers: Jeff and I love to explore! Chicago is our favorite city — the food, architecture & hidden gems make it feel like home. We’re always chasing our next adventure, big or small.

💖 Giving Back: I love connecting with my community and making a difference. From raising funds for Saving Grace Animal society to volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters (being a big sister to a 10 year old girl), giving back is something that truly lights me up. Whether it’s supporting local causes, helping people feel seen and cared for, or creating workshops that bring joy and connection, I believe small acts of kindness can have a big impact. Being able to use Petal & Blüm to spread a little love and positivity makes everything I do even more meaningful

Behind the Blooms: Life as a Florist During Wedding Season

Wedding season is where the magic happens at Petal and Blüm — and also where the coffee flows non-stop, the days start early, and the flower buckets seem to multiply overnight.

 From the outside, it might look like a dream — working with beautiful flowers all day, surrounded by roses, eucalyptus, and peonies. And yes, it is a dream… but it’s also a whirlwind of planning, early mornings, and creativity under pressure.

It All Starts Weeks Before💐

 A wedding bouquet isn’t just thrown together the day before. Weeks (and sometimes months) go into planning each arrangement. I meet with couples to talk about their vision — the colors, the style, the mood they want for their big day. Every bouquet tells a story, and my job is to make sure that story blooms in the most beautiful way possible.

Last year was full of so many magical moments - From Bree & Jordon’s forest, enchanted wedding — rich dark greens with hints of soft blue to capture the magic of the woods. Or Dori & Josh’s elegant June ceremony, where Playa Blanca roses and delicate baby’s breath looked like something out of a romantic movie (the rain made it even more magical)

The Flower Rush🤩

When the flowers arrive from my suppliers, it’s like Christmas morning — but with a lot more stems to trim. Every bloom is unpacked, cleaned, hydrated, and given a little love so it’s at its best for the wedding day. My workspace smells like a garden exploded, and there are petals everywhere.

 This is when my fur baby, Bella, often takes on her “supervisor” role. She lounges nearby with that I’m-the-boss expression, keeping an eye on every single stem (and occasionally stealing the spotlight in my behind-the-scenes photos).

The Late Nights & Early Mornings ⭐

The final days before a wedding are a blur. Sometimes I’m up past midnight finishing centerpieces, only to be back in the shop at sunrise making sure every detail is perfect. Coffee becomes a food group. Music plays in the background. And I get into a creative flow where the outside world disappears.

 The biggest wedding I’ve done to date — Erin & Connor’s all-white floral dream. My garage was full of blooms, and it felt like I was working in a cloud. Exhausting? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely- and a HUGE thanks to my wonderful husband, MIL & SIL for all your help!

The Best Part✨

For all the chaos, nothing beats the moment I hand a bride her bouquet. There’s always a smile — sometimes happy tears — and it’s in that moment I’m reminded why I do this. Flowers have a way of capturing love, joy, and memory all at once.

 Wedding season may be busy, messy, and exhausting… but it’s also my favorite time of year. Every wedding I’m a part of feels like an honor, and I wouldn’t trade these behind-the-blooms moments for anything.

 Some brides come to me with a full Pinterest board. Others send one photo and say, “Do your thing.” Either way, I always ask:

•  What’s the vibe of your day?

• What colors are you naturally drawn to?

• Do you want something classic, moody, whimsical, structured, or wildly romantic?

 Because the answer helps me figure out which blooms, textures, and shapes will make you feel like you. Whether it’s soft Playa Blanca roses, wild bits of baby’s breath, or unique pops like sea holly or veronica — each stem is chosen with intention.

Your Wedding Should Feel Like a Fairytale… But Here’s the Truth

When you imagine your wedding day, it’s easy to picture something straight out of a storybook — soft music playing, everyone beaming with joy, your bouquet perfectly fluffed, and every detail going exactly to plan. But here’s the truth: real weddings rarely go perfectly. And that’s not a bad thing. In fact, it’s often the unplanned, the unexpected, and even the slightly unhinged moments that become the stories you’ll tell for years to come.

A Story I’ll Never Forget 💐

A week before my own wedding, my maid of honour broke her back. Yes — a full-on spinal fracture. She lives in BC, and we genuinely didn’t expect her to come. We told her to rest and recover, not to worry about the wedding, and to focus on healing. And then — the day before the wedding — she showed up. On crutches. Smiling. Ready to stand by my side, just like she promised. It wasn’t the moment I imagined, but it was one of the most meaningful parts of the entire day. Because love shows up — even if it’s bruised, broken, or limping a little. ❤️

 The Beauty in the Chaos 🌿

 As a florist, I’ve seen a lot behind the scenes: bouquets left in hotel rooms, ceremony chairs blown over by wind, centerpieces accidentally stolen by well-meaning grandmas. (True story.) But through it all — the vows are still said. The laughter still echoes. And the flowers still blum. So if your wedding day has a few hiccups? It’s okay. Those are the moments that make your day uniquely yours. Because the truth is, perfection doesn’t make a wedding magical — connection does.
